Mellenium madness
On 2GB this afternoon the boss of state rail was interviewed about the new rail time table. A question put to him was where were all the mellenium trains as this train travelling listener never sees one.
Well it seems due to the fact the these trains need to have specially trained drivers these trains are kept out west.
They wouldn't be overengineered would they?
It runs on tracks so you don't have to steer, you have an accelerator and a brake and of course a whistle, what's so difficult?
Any average driver could get into any car no matter what make or model and drive, what makes the Mellenium Train so special that it needs special drivers?
As you know I have a thing about keeping it simple.
Not all the safety evacuation slides worked on that jet that overshot the runway last week. The only time they HAVE to work and there's a problem.
Mercedes are touting an air bag system that has a "2 stage" arrangement and it depends on the persons weight etc etc. I hope they don't make it too complicated.
In the Sydney Morning herald 16/4/05
.......................................................................
"Germany's reputation for making the most reliable cars in the world is in tatters,"writes Bill McKinnon
"In the US the E class was crowned the least reliable new car in 2004
"The E class now has computor driven brakes, suspension, trasmission,
safety systems,cruise control,navigation - you name it"
"They're great when they work, but sometimes they don't.
The slightest disturbance to a control unit, sensor or connection can render the relevant system inoperative and useless."

A aircraft safety slide has to work, a air bag should also work when needed.
