"FIVE ANGRY DRIVERS BEAT THE RTA'S SCHOOL TRAP"
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH (16/8/05)has a report about 5 drivers caught by a school zone speed camera on a pupil free day. They went to court and won and the magistrate ruled against the RTA.
It was a gazetted school day so the RTA was within it's rights in fining speeding drivers.
I would think that these drivers forgot or didn't notice the signs and the "Pupil free day" defense was just lucky.
Getting off on what could be a contrived technicality is not how it should work.
Laws have to be uniform.
At a compulsory stop the wheel of your car must stop . If cars were allowed to go through a stop sign slowly, the law wouldn't work.
Some people's idea of "slowly" is 60 klms
The whole idea of slowing traffic at school zones is for the safety of our children
BUT WE NEED MORE THAN SIGNS, TO MAKE DRIVERS AWARE OF SCHOOL ZONE TIMES
