Sponsorship for school zone signs.
For years I have thought that one way to speed up the roll out of flashing lights at schools, would be to allow advertising on the school zone signs to pay for them.
No not a price list of this week's specials at a local liquor store, but something like the following examples

The RTA may have resistance to allowing an advertising tag on the school zone sign, saying they would distract drivers, but there are now huge advertising billboards on RTA overhead pedestrian bridges in school zones
as the billboard over the Princes Highway at Gymea.

I think they would be more distracting that a little sponser company tag.
The RTA/Gov is slowly (no doubt because of cost) installing flashing lights this sponsorship initiative would help get more out there more quickly.
Drivers then know WHEN it's school zone time.
Drivers would feel good about the company that helped put the lights there for the drivers, and for the school kids.
A win win situation.
NSW will get a new government later this month that will be open for ways to save money, and sponsorship for this worthwhile cause would have to be viewed in a positive light.
We are talking about the safety of our most valuable resource, our children
I have emailed a couple of major companies to get feedback on this idea...
