All NSW schools to get flashing lights
At last it has happened, today it was anounced that all the rest of NSW's schools will get flashig lights.
Well done Peter , you stayed on the case, countless hours putting up the initial "homemade" lights at Lurgano and Peakhurst and then all the "check speed" signs with their flashing lights.
and all the time you spent trying to explain the bleeding obvious to those who should care that things don't need to cost a fortune to do the same job as a cheaper option.
7 years it took to get what is common sense done.

ALL NSW SCHOOLS TO GET FLASHING LIGHTS
The NSW Government today announced that school zone flashing lights would be installed at all schools by the end of 2015 (see attached).
School zone safety campaigner Peter Olsen, who was present when the announcement was made, said that he was very pleased with it:
“This is a great outcome for the safety of our children and one that the NSW Government needs to be congratulated for.
“It is also a great outcome for drivers because it means they will no longer be penalised for not realising what time of the day it is.
“After all the money that has been wasted in the past on ineffective measures such as dragon’s teeth it is good to see a commitment to fast-track the one solution that really works.
“I have been campaigning for this for over seven years, but a lot of other people also deserve credit, including
- the School Zone Santa, Hans Stephens
- the Rotary Clubs of North Ryde and Rockdale
- the member for Ryde, Minister Victor Dominello
- former state minister Kevin Greene
“The media also did a great job in focusing public attention on the issue. “It is pleasing to see that all of those efforts have finally paid off.

All NSW schools to have flashing lights by 2015
Updated 48 minutes ago
The New South Wales government has announced every school in the state will have flashing lights to warn motorists of the speed limit, by 2015.
The state government says the upcoming budget will set aside $13-million to accelerate the warning project for motorists.
The Premier Barry O'Farrell says the decision to cover the remaining schools is now possible because a modified version of the original lights has been developed.
The Roads Minister Duncan Gay says the new lights are more efficient to produce.
"It's a two thirds reduction in the cost of producing a school flashing light from the previous government," he said.
"And what that is is a retrofit on the existing signs so children are protected at schools and people that are driving past that inadvertently may miss a sign, their licence is protected as well."
The man behind a campaign to improve road safety in school zones has welcomed the plans for flashing lights outside schools.
The Roads Minister Duncan Gay says Peter Olsen inspired the government to consider a more efficient way of building the warning signs.
Mr Olsen says it is a fantastic outcome for the safety of school children.
"The best evidence is simply to ask any person who drives a car. You drive through a school zone with flashing lights, you instantly go oh and you slow down," he said.
"You drive through a school zone without flashing lights and in the rear vision mirror, you see the sign and you think oops."

Common sense
Back in 2007 the RTA installed two speed cameras in the Beverly Hills school zone on King Georges rd it took 7 emails to 3 differant road ministers (one handed personably by me to a road minister, after there was no reply) to get flashing lights added to this sign
FROM THIS

TO THIS

The reason the lights helped drivers and school kids alike was that drivers would stop at the traffic lights (just back up the road) and while they waited for the green it's easy to forget about the school zone, the lights would change and there was now 3 lanes downhill to the hidden speed camera.
Now there are blinking lighst to remind drivers that it's school zone time.
Thank you ex Road Minister Borger.
