BOTTLE NECK
Reading the Leader story (15/3/05) again I see that Ms Burton said "it was ridiculous to have a school zone on a major highway"
But I can't see it being very sensible to have major highway traffic speeding past students a metre away on a crowded footpath.
The area is not a bottleneck because of the school zone, it's because of the sheer volume of traffic, made worse when the pedestrian traffic lights at St Patrick's church, and the traffic lights at the South st intersection stop the flow.
The F6 extension mapped out over 50 years ago, by real planners might ease congestion.
The school zone question is on the road safety summit agenda tomorrow(Thurs) I wonder what will be decided.
I slowed about 50 cars this morning who didn't know it was school zone time. or who didn't care.
But who in their right mind, ignores all the signs and speeds?
They talked about differing speed limits today at the summit I wrote about that in december see categories "Differing speed zones'
