Alan Jones is human
JONES SAID GILLARD'S DAD DIED OF SHAME
TthTheebyline on a story on page 6 in the Sunday Telegragh (Sept 30 2012)
I can't find the original but this what an Irish paper reported

Obviously a big story in Ireland

Mr. Alan Jones AO
..................................................................................................................................................................................
I opened this week's Sunday Telegraph and was amazed to read what Alan Jones had said at a meeting.
How could he say that when every word he and other so called "shock jocks" utter is disected by those that want to discredit them in every way possible.
But hey he is only human, an off the cuff line said among "friends," a line he had heard earlier.
We all make mistakes even I, ask my wife.
So I wrote a letter to the editor of the Daily Telegraph on Monday and this morning on the letter's page:
.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
I'm glad I made the cut and headlined the letter's page, but lines (for space reasons, why else ) were left out which lessened (I think) the message I tried to convey.
The letter as I sent in was as follows

Dear Sir,
I too was astounded at the comment that Alan Jones made in relation to the death of the prime minister’s father, but he won’t be the last to make unguarded, unwise or even stupid statements. Normally these are excused as brain snaps, caused by tiredness, stress, too much alcohol, misquoted, or out of context etc. The fact is people make mistakes, some apologize, and then it’s yesterday’s news. But this will be different, as so called “shock jocks” like Alan Jones are more a thorn in the side of leaders and governments, (of bothsides I might add) as even last week Alan Jones had NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell squirming on air when challenged about his handling of coal seam gas mining. Recently it was Ray Hadley’s turn when someone from Media Watch thought “we’ve got him” thinking Ray had made a mistake when reading out ad. The mere fact that the Prime Minister is reported that she has declined to take a call from Mr. Jones so he could apologize personally, shows that this story has a long way to go
There no doubt will even be calls to cancel broadcasting licenses unless Jones is sacked to silence this man, a man who stands up, and speaks for the average person who doesn’t have a voice. Give the guy a break, we need shock jocks like him out there to keep the bastards honest, (to use an old line), he made a mistake, he rightly has said he’s sorry, move on people
Regards
Hans Stephens

Just in case anyone gets the impression that all I do is write letters, I do now and again when something irkes me
Obviously not all are printed
Here's a couple from the "reject letters category."

Dear sir,
Bewdy the Kings Cross czar has a love child, fantastic. Now we can forget reading the boring stuff of who will guide Australia's future. Could I ask on behalf of all fellow Ibrahim news groupies, some very important questions for tomorrow's front page (if it hasn't been put to bed yet.) Does love child Daniel have a girlfriend, if so, photo please (large). What brand are those funky sunglasses? What car does Daniel drive. Does he prefer budgie smugglers or boardshorts (close up photo please.) There's no mention of a stepdad in the story, does HE have a love child, is his mother a cougar?
I could go on, but I need to have a lie down
Regards

Subject: Important stuff
Dear sir,
With eager anticipation I leafed through this morning's copy of the Tele. But to my horror nowhere (after two front page stories so far this week), could I find a mention of the life and times of the Ibrahim family, not one word.
I rang my newsagent but no, a glossy liftout about the aforementioned family hadn't dropped out, or been stolen..
This being the case, as the president of the Kirrawee chapter of the Ibrahim fan club I ask The Telegraph, no demand less boring election ho hum, but more news on what really matters.
Thank you
Regards
Hans Stephens
