Speed Cameras

"Dave of Sydney" commented on the Cleveland st cameras and said exactly what I was thinking, how many drivers get caught-out after hours? Should school zone cameras only be for school zone time?
Dave of Sydney Posted at 8:23 AM October 18, 2010
The Cleveland street cameras are outrageous. There are signs everywhere showing the school time speed limit of 40 but not a one showing that the outside school time speed limit is 50 rather than 60. It is the kind of road that would normally attract a 60 limit - 2 lanes in each direction through a non residential area. I would wager that over 90% of the cleveland st infringements would occur outside the school hours.

NO 8 in the list of highest money earners above is Beverly Hills SOUTHBOUND, the spot that needs an extra flashing light.
King Georges rd Southbound has a hidden camera as can be seen in the link below

From the Telegraph article:
"As for the state's busiest speed camera, the Cleveland St terror looks set to top the NSW shame list for the third year straight, making just shy of $1 million in two months and nearly $18 million over three years. Every day, the average NSW speed camera captures just three motorists while the Cleveland St camera nabs an amazing 111.
Peak motoring body, the NRMA, called for the Government to examine traffic conditions on the road or face cynical motorists tired of revenue raising. The two cameras, facing in opposite directions on one pole, cover a 50km/h five-lane stretch, stinging up to 2000 motorists each month.
In its three years, it has shot 162,266 motorists, making the Government $17.7 million.
"Peak motoring body, the NRMA, called for the Government to examine traffic conditions....."
The NRMA "CALLED" for the Government...........
Has the NRMA done a survey or a Freedom of information request to find out the number of cars caught after school zone time, not realising the limit there and doing a realistic speed of 60 kl/ph at 2.0am on a deserted 4 lane rd?

There is an alternative to NO signs to advise drivers on what speed it is in "off duty" school zones. Very simple.
How about a sign like this when you are in a long school zone, (or any school zone)in Beverly Hills as you turn right into King Georges rd from Stoney Creek rd, because the lack of any sign there has been the cause of so may court cases.
I've to Sutherland Court and seen it, A driver tries to explain that he didn't know what the speed was, and the RTA man says to the Judge that any driver not knowing what the speed is, should then drive at the "default speed". Default speed ??????????????

The 60 is of course replaced by the 50 70 or what ever the other variable speed is outside of school zone hours
"Oh no another different sign, no way, it would confuse drivers." could be the argument for a NO from the RTA.
Would one extra sign really be that difficult?
Drivers are meant to know a few different rules now, have a look down the left hand column of the link below and I think a new sign like the example above isn't too confusing.
I think the average driver would work it out

That was the last speed limit sign before drivers turned into King Georges rd Beverly Hills coming out of Stoney Creek rd.
After I put the photo of this damaged sign on the site it was replaced by a new similar sized one.
So if you missed that sign and you thought that King Georges rd was 70 (as it mostly) is the speed camera will tell you your mistake soon enough.
