ARE SPEED CAMERAS ACCURATE?
Yes the RTA said, because they are “state of the art”.
Mr Carr when asked if he would take a lie detector test over the Orange Grove affair said yes, but “I’d want assurances the machine, it’s wires and devices, were fail safe and it was an honest and accurate machine.”
Are speed cameras, its wires and devices fail safe, honest and accurate machines?
Ask the thousands of motorists in Victoria who were given refunds because of faulty speed cameras.
How much anguish did that cause to families there.
Did drivers loose their license, loose their job?
It was only after it was proven, that a car couldn’t do the speed that the infringement notice said it was detected doing, that the Victorian RTA was embarrassed into admitting that they had a problem and made restitution.
We have to TRUST the RTA/state government that the “state of the art“ cameras used now and planned will be fail safe.
Highway patrol officers patrol officers can detect more than just speed. A driver pulled over could be intoxicated unlicensed, have a car load of drugs or stolen property etc.
For safer roads and effective policing we need more police in unmarked cars, not more speed cameras!
I have more info and clippings to add on this subject later(when I figure out how to.)
In one piece I read that the the company that made faulty speed cameras for Victoria has gone into the coal business
They must be multiskilled people.
NSW has some of the same brand speed cameras too. (DT 12/1/05)
At Kogarah at approx 9.0 am 18/2/05 the south camera flash was continualy firing for about a minute every time a car tripped the sensors. Being a public spirited person I rang the media and the RTA.
I took video footage of the flash malfunctioning.
