Beverly Hills Cop 25/07/07
In the middle of the King Georges Rd shopping strip in Beverly Hills the RTA have installed a variable speed camera on both sides of the road.
The whole area is a school zone almost one kilometer long that has a school at either end and has flashing lights at either end.
There is also a flashing light school zone sign for drivers as well if you enter King Georges rd from Stoney creek rd.
If you don't see the flashing lights at school zone time, and speed and get caught by the camera coming from the South, I'm afraid you have only yourself to blame.
But if the flashing lights are faulty at the time, as happens as I've noted all year, what happens then?
The cameras weren't working when I saw them a couple of weeks back.
When they are I'll have a look and see how drivers are fairing.
The RTA must think it necessary to put up flashing lights there, and if they aren't flashing it's logical to think that it's not school zone time.

The center median flashing light unit. The speed camera is on the left near the (hard to see) parked van

The road slopes down all the way to the camera so it will be on the brakes to keep it at 40.
BUT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD IS A DIFFERENT MATTER
There are flashing lights way back up King Georges Rd but no middle median flashing light unit at the shops like the one across the road and the cars coming out of busy side roads Morgan St and Tooronga St from Kingsgrove and Bexly North .....are on their own.
If they turn left the road also slopes all the way to the speed camera.
By the way there is a fence down the centre of part of the road, high planter boxes down another section and there is an pedestrian over bridge, pedestrian lights and other light controlled intersections.
Is the whole idea of school zones devalued by having one nearly a kilometre long, on what is virtually a divided road?
Yes but it's a busy shopping strip.
Why not make all shopping areas school zones?
