smokes
This is how to get votes in the West.
People are under stress because of bills.
People smoke more when under stress
Not all I emailed in was printed which is a shame

Subject: Tax the addicted
Dear sir,
John McTernan may be gone but it seems his ghost lives on. Just when Prime Minister Rudd, claws back votes in the Labor heartland, with smiles, grandiose promises and selfies he announces a tax hike on cigarettes. As Basil Fawlty would say, Brilliant!
The average voters in the vital marginal western seats, don't care about politics, but they do care about the price of their smokes. Here's an idea Mr. Rudd, up the tax on beer and say it's because you need the money to pay for the ever increasing number of refugees arriving on Christmas Island. That'll work.
Regards
Hans Stephens
