School Zone Santa .Com

"It's deadly" said a passerby this morning when he saw me watching the South camera at the Beverly Hills school zone.

Between 8 am and 9.30 am I counted the camera flash 68 times.

68 drivers allegedly going faster than 40 kmh during school zone time,and believe me it hurts to see cars coming obviously going faster than 40, and not alerting the drivers, seeing by their faces as they pass, that they are totally unaware of the fine and 4 points that's on the way.

When the cars in this photo came past the speed camera at 8.30 am it flashed 4 times.

It's a case of follow the leader as there were other multiples right through the school zone time

They wait for the traffic lights to change at Morgan st, forgetting it seems, all about the school zone, and cruise on down to be caught.

Flashing lights on a larger sign at Edgbaston st will be a great help to remind drivers that it is still a school zone and it is school zone time

Tomorrow I'll see what a difference that extra set of flashing lights make on the camera count across the road.

IT HAD TO HAPPEN

After I first noticed that cameras were being installed at Beverly Hills I wrote on 25/7/07 " Beverly Hills Cop" that there was going to be problems with this setup.
Sadly as the leaders article shows my concern made sense.

The RTA spokes person says that a repeater sign was installed at Edgebaston St.

That's the sign that I wrote to the roads minister about on 3/9/07 and told him that this sign, needs flashing lights.

Any long school zones must have repeater lights if there are side streets coming into the zone.

How many other drivers have been caught out at this school zone and are about to loose their licence?

Dear sir,
I question the need at all, for there to be a school zone along the whole length of the shopping strip at King Georges Rd Beverly hills.

With a fence and planter boxes, this area is virtually a divided road and with an overbridge, and traffic lights along it's length, there are ample places for pedestrians to cross safely.
Granted there is a school at both ends of the school zone, but why not have a zone at the school, not a single one nearly one kilometer long.
Last Monday 3rd Sept. in the morning school zone time, I counted the South speed camera light flash 34 times in one hour, as cars went past allegedly exceeding the 40 kmh limit.
Why would drivers do this, unless they were unaware that they were still in a school zone, yet nowhere near a school.
The RTA have put up a small "repeater " school zone sign at Egdbaston st, but it needs to be one with flashing lights.
On Tues 4 th Sept, I e-mailed Mr Roozendaal the roads minister requesting that this be done, I have not as yet, had any response.
