How much will the NBN cost?
The true cost of Australia's National Broadband Network is only a guess, as everything organised by any Government always cost more than origionaly stated.
The figure at the moment is anywhere between 37 billion and 55 billion dollars.
$37,000,000,000. how much is that?
One example:
The distance around the world at the equator, is 40,075.02 kilometres
Let's say the lowest quoted figure for the NBN, is a very optimistic figure of $40,billion, well that is so much money, that Wayne Swan as he could drive around the world at the equator in a very big amphibious truck, he could have Senator Conroy shovel out one million dollars as he went every kilometre, right around the planet.
That's $1,000,000 of borrowed money for every kilometre around the WHOLE world, and for something that's ( with the alternative technology availiable) is not really needed.

Subject: Cost of the NBN
Dear sir
The cost of the National broadband network is put at anything from $37 to $55 billion (and higher). How much borrowed money is that in layman's terms you might ask.
Well if the cost of the NBN rollout was an optimistically low figure of $40 billion, then this is so much money, that if Treasurer Wayne Swan drove around the world at the equator, (the distance which is 40,075.2 kilometres), in a very large amphibious truck, he could have Senator Conroy shovel out one million dollars every kilometre they went, right around the planet. Are there not more pressing ways to spend that sort of money, such as health, power, water etc. rather than a faster way to google recipes? Who voted for these people?

Hans Stephens

NBN benefits grossly overstated: study
"An international study has found the claimed benefits of a national broadband network have been "grossly overstated", and accuses the federal government of misusing research to build the case for it."
