 Going to Sutherland tonight I gave way to a van at the roundabout in Kirrawee and thought that this can not be right, so I sent the below email to the roads Minister

 

 Dear Minister,

 Do you realize what is going on re the issuing of car number plates using different colours in back grounds and numerals?. .

Tonight at 6.50 pm I gave way to a van at a roundabout in Kirrawee, and not only had this van very dark (obviously illegal) window tint, it also had  a very bright number plate light over  the rear number plate which made the red numeral on a white back ground impossible to read. Yesterday I saw a car with blue numerals on a black background which was also impossible to distinguise with the car three car lengths away. On another occasion a vehicle had blue numerals on a black background causing the same problem. Thinking maybe I just an old fool imagining things, I mentioned the difficulty I had seeing the blue on black combination to the RMS person when I renewed my rego, and he understood my concern and said "it was all about the money".

 Maybe a little more research is urgently needed because the whole point of number plates it to identify vehicles using the numerals displayed.

 The yellow background with black numerals worked very well in this regard.

I thought first of ringing up talkback tomorrow to see what Ray thinks about my cocerns,  but no I'll wait for a reply from the Road Ministers office

as Mr Gay seems like a no nonsense sort of bloke.

Update ....... I 've had a reply on behalf of the roads Minister about my concerns

 

I did email Ray Hadley on 2GB when he talked about this number plate problem but I  didn't get a reply.
